Think it can’t happen here? I hope you’re right. But when the news talks topple who were taken by surprise by a fast moving fireman say they didn’t expect it. Think we’re safe on top of a hill? Maybe not. Last year’s Caldor fire was close enough to get a rumor started that we were in line for an evacuation. We didn't, but that was last year! I'm not expecting trouble, but I am now ready to get away from Deadwood and head for some Evacuation Center! Will this be the year? Off to the fairgrounds? For a few hours, or maybe a day or two? Anticipate the worst, and prepare:
Evacuation Gear Suggestions:
• An Orange Daypack: Orange is the new black. My version of "Where's Steve?" An orange pack should be noticed. I started with this. It's an nexpensive ($16), small, and really quite a nice little daypack. It holds the following…
• My iPhone, with an Audible book, and an app for CBS newsroom Sacramento. The book for a time-killer.
• Dual Charge Cord for my iPhone and Apple watch; an indispensable pair for all sorts of reasons.
• Bluetooth Earphones and Cable: For private (not to bother others) listening if bored!.
• A Solar Power Bank Charger with LED lights: A terrific item! A favorite thing when the power goes out at Deadwood. A back-up battery for the digital stuff, and the LED lights are much brighter than any regular flashlight. And it is Solar so it recharges in sunlight. Perfect. About $20. One great item for your desk drawer when there is a PSPS.
• A Swiss Knife: You can’t go wrong with a Swiss knife: Blades, a can opener, a corkscrew, even tweezers?
• Sunglasses: Obvious, but maybe with a case to keep from breaking them when not on your face.
• Meds in a caddy: What meds do you take? A small case with a two-week supply.
• An Aluminum water bottle to refill and not suffer leaks or a broken plastic bottle.
• Some Power Bars: Hey, hunger strikes. A few power bars take up little space, and they don't melt.
• An Extra T-Shirt: Who knows?
• A Wind Breaker: Again, who knows? A cooling evening, maybe a bit of rain? Stop laughing, it could happen.
Are you Diabetic? If you need insulin that might require refrigeration, check out this insulin travel kit that is a cooler that keeps insulin cold for hours.
