Audible books have ben around a long time, and they certainly can have their place in your library.
Audible entices you with two FREE books if you join, and the good news is you actually get to choose both! Years ago, you chose one and took two from a "remaindered" table. Once you are in, you pay $14.95 each month* for a single credit, and that is usually lots less than the print copy. That credit gets you any book you want, no matter the price for non members.
* NOTE: there is a cheaper plan! You can join for just $7.95 a month and listen to most any book you want from 11,000 + titles. You do not get any books to own! This plan sounds better than Kindle's $10 for online reading.
You are not committed to any term of membership! Try it for four months and decide it isn't right for you? Quit!
Audible books are read by professional voices if not by the authors themselves. Bryson's The Body, a Guide is made more entertaining because he is a Brit and his accent is nice to listen to.
While I don't want a book every month, and paying $15 each month for a credit I won't use for months is not my plan. I am mostly looking for science or Nature topics, so I have re joined for my free books. Got them and am enjoying them, now we will see how it goes? I actually like owning my books, and The Last Days of the Dinosaurs sounded like one I would want for repeat listening. I have Bill Bryson's The Body, a Guide, and I have listened to it several times.
A fun thing to discover is that you can buy extra credits! Buy 3 Audible credits for $35.88. So if you find several books you want all at once, $11.96 instead of $15 and you save a few bucks.
