difficulties seniors face navigating.. As one who is very much older than 65, I had to smile a lot as I listened that that article. Smile? Yes, because I am not at all involved with any of the multiple difficulties described! And yet I am dealing with diabetes. Why am I not suffering? I credit the fact thaat I jumped in and embraced the new digital era when it started. I bought my first Mac in 1985 and have been a techie ever since. Thaat is why I do not balk at the way I get my health test results vis a website called MyChart! In fact I get a blood draw every 90 days and the results are in MyChart in a few hours. I have skipped two office visits now because in years of that follow-up, all I am told is what I already learned with MyChart. In fact, my health remains a constant and so I do not fear something creeping in me. es, I Yes, will go back next time, I'm not stupid. I am a rare bird in this Deadwood aviary. I love my Mac and know how to handle the digital world my healthcare system. I am quite lucky to have excellent insurance that leaves me with zero bills to pay, my few meds are covered, and even my eye care is covered...in full! I do see a few specialists that are all located in my local gospital, but the eye guy in in another town, and I have a helper who is paid to take me there (and back!) by Medi·Cal. I do talk wither at least listen tooter birds who never learned to use a computer, can hardly manage a smartphone for anything more than a phone call, and are not interested in finding out what they are missing! I try to give them some help, it never catches on. I keep telling to story about how I have my mom a Mac when she ws 80, she took to it and loved many benefits, having fun with music and books, even some cartooning, and had to give it up when she died at 100 years old. So thanks for that link, moss. I made me even more ware that I am a lucky guy. Life is good.

moss . I'm a little envious. I have had a life-long interest in astronomy, but for too many years now,I cannot even see the Moon! There was a timeI would've closed my shop and driven to Baja or even Texas to see the Solar Eclipse! Not gonna happen this year. "The path of totality will sweep across the Lone Star State from the Mexico-Texas border, beginning at Eagle Pass and exiting Texas in the northeast near the Texarkana region. The total eclipse will be visible in major cities across Texas, including San Antonio, Austin, Waco, Dallas and Fort Worth." I hope you have the appropriate glasses and will come back to this dead forum to tell me just how wonderful it was?

Steve, I just wish it was today because there's not a cloud in the sky. It's a roll of the dice what we get next week.

Steve I have had trouble logging in for a week or two. I'm attaching a Washington Post article that is similar to one I posted last year about the desert wildflowers. wapo.st/49H9F5f

moss, how good to see you back! Trouble logging in due to forum issues, or Wi-Fi problems? I continue to be fascinated that 60 to 90 Guests find their way here, some even request permission (they have to ask to have their new account unlocked) so I sort of appreciate that they went through the CAPTCH challenge, but all for me to reject them? Hardly fair. but I don't need new posts from who knows where selling who knows what! I will enjoy the wildflower report, so thanks for that. This morning I am laughing at an interview with Doris Kearns Goodwin telling a story that sounds fishy! She was describing first year with Dick Goodwin who was at that time, a speechwriter for JFK. At the time, however, he was interested in the debate with Nixon and JFK, so Doris and Dick sat and watched....ON TOIUTUBE! Hello, Doris, there was not even an Internet then, let alone any YouTube. Fact Checker, clean up on Aisle 5.

moss , PS: That was an interesting article, of course, and it made me happy to know I have had my past visits to DV to imagine all that was described. I have tracked many of GV's truly Rare plants nd feel I had some great luck as an enthusiastic sen-taight botanist. I di have to hesitate when that article commented that the filling of "Lake Manly" (here's an i nvesting set of pictures) allowing a "once in a lifetime experience" sort of forgets this has happened at least three times in the recent past decades. But that's okay. In a comparison to the info about wildflowers needing protection, lat night's 60 Minutes had a bit about Catalina Island and a plan to hire sharpshooters to eliminate the island's growing population of Mike Deer. Introduced 100 years ago to provide hunting experience for island residents, the deer are devouring the native vegetation and the island is losing many species thaat grow no other place in the world! The obvious solution is to eliminate the deer! Some claim ttis is making the animals suffer! Sorry, I sort of thought and instantly death was lack of suffering? One resident said the deer were an important part of the island landscape. She seems not to realize that the deer are forever changing that ;landscape, nd not for the better.

moss, a glitch at login? How interesting! For maybe two weeks I come to the forum and need to sign in! The is odd because I have never signed out in years! But this sounds like it's similar to your problem? Note that when you need to sign in, there is a checkbox under the space for your forum name that asks if you want to have the name remembered, which should mean what it says. But it looks to be a glitch with the software and Proboards! t least we can both still get into the forum, so I guess that's good? Just keeplookpng in,likeI do./ Maybe things will get better.

It'shard to come to the full realization that lt is time (actually way past time!) to stop pretending this forum serves any purpose. Never anywhere near as useful as I had tried to make it, even the handful of people who joined started thinning out after few weeks and continued until there were but four who keptt up at least frequent posting. Even thaat few has dropped to my frequent posts and faithful moss who t leasted the less frequent links to WaPo articles which I always appreciated. Candy gave up many weeks ago and blamed her pain pills, and tululou posted a question tome that I answered and then never came back to see it! Oh, she did come back (every visit leaves footprints) but looked in and then left. Haven't had any reply to an email I sent. And my helper Greg did join but found it too hard to use so never came back. What an amazing way to finish. So while I could make a comment about how really interesting it was to listen to the Supreme Court work and the legal wrangling, I have heardd that the Supreme Court nine are not all very supreme! It is clear to me that lifetime terms are way out of date. It's too bad we cannot vote them in or out. Trump is clearly the worst thing that has ever come to have any power in this country's history! I'm not unhappy that I am not facing 20more years of how things are going. So that's a bizarre message to leave as I try to ignore my need to look in every day only to see that even the usual high Guest count is dropping tools numbers, even to zero yesterday! It's time to quit. I won't close the door, but I don't expect anything to change. Thanks, moss, for being one of the first to join, apparently leaving the Gunsmoke forum to try the Cottonwood forum, and stain on to be the second toast man standing! -Steve

Steve, Thanks for the blood, sweat, and tears you put into this forum. Sorry it didn't catch on. I'll PM my email and possibly we can trade yearly Christmas greetings. I can't resist the von Trapp family as my sign off.

ATTENTION GUEST VISITORS: THIS thread ONLY is now OPEN TO ALLOW a GUEST to REPLY to THIS COMMENT!Don't make me regret it!
Have never understood why this little forum has managed to have a pretty high count of Guests when, as far as I have ever found, it is basically impossible to find with any Google searches I have tried. How do Guests find it?
I'm tempted to open this section to allow Guests to post so somebody might offer some explanations. How did you find item and why is it interesting to somebody who is not living here in the Cottonwood collection? So why don't I?Because I don't want to end up removing porn or sales messages, both of which have happened. Even when I put a roadblock in the path that required new member to get my permission to actually post, I only agreed to maybe TWO people who ended up never posting. (* see the last sentence. The gate is open!)
I never understood why even spammers posted in Chinese! Long messages in Chinese were certainly not with my time to use Google Translate, so even when somebody passed the CAPTCH test and gained entry, it was useless effort.
So thanks, I guess, for visiting. Too bad it wasn't much use to you. But here's your chance to tele how you got here and why you came in?
* UPDATE! I have removed the need to ask permission! I hope I don't regret this.

Good morning, Second surgery done yesterday. This one is a challenge. I’m told there are three layers of dissolvable stitches and liquid stitches on top. For next two weeks I’m not allowed to drive, bend to touch feet or knees, pickup anything heavier than a empty coffee cup, and must sit/sleep in the adjustable bed since my recliner is not electric, and I’m not allowed to walk any further than my bathroom or kitchen. Oh… And no showering for two weeks, just navy baths… moss - I saw you were talking about an eclipse? Steve’s new worker brought me a telescope! I have not used one in 20 years, but if the date is after I can bend over to set it up and look through it. I didn’t catch a date? I hope to take an astronomy course at the local college. It should be interesting to see how I will do. Storage is officially empty! Seems everything I thought someone would like later when he decided to do artwork again was in vain. Despite being appreciated, everything went to dumpster… Broke my heart to see it thrown away. But what’s done is done… Score!!!! I knew I bought In Design and Photoshop through Adobe. I found the books! Yay! My friend will allow me to use her Adobe Illustrator App to do the lessons. One of our neighbors father, 96 years old, still drives and works! He has a fully equipped wood shop that none of his kids hold an interest in. Then he meets me! I can in no way afford any of that equipment and if I did, I have no place to keep it. In his spare time, he gets the free or $200 travel trailers that are unlivable to tear them down to frame and rebuild. I’m so excited to watch and possibly help come fall to see this come to fruition. He made trivets for the quilting shop to sell, cutting boards for the Jackson Kitchenware store. He made all three of his daughters beautiful Hope Chests. I want to learn how to do shepherds roofs, he’s going to teach me on a small scale shepherds hut toy… I am just so amazed at what he has learned to make with his wood tools.
