Of course it is! Whether you know it or not, and of course you should know it. Here is a chart for reference. Spoiler Alert: It should be 120/80 or lower.
I turned on the TV to see early news news, but being Saturday it was the usual weekend sell-o-rama. I switched to a new channel and was immediately interested! Some world-renowned expert was telling a way-too-fascinated young woman about the wonders of SuperBeets®. I started watching. I know things about beets and had to see what was coming?
For four previous years, a doctor visit every 90 days and as standard BP check, my BP was 135ish over whatever. Never once a mention of any concern. Suddenly i was told it was too high.Standards have changed. In fact there has been a drop in what is considered good. I started doing research on lowering BP. I easily found info on beets as a good food to lower BP. I read lots, learned lots, and started easting more beets. Lots! of beets In a week or two, BP was down in a range around 110 to 120. All because of beets and Nitric oxide, winning the Nobel Prize for the researchers who discovered its importance. ou need to read that link.
Now, back to the infomercial for SuperBeets®. This expert was talking about my best medical experience and mostly talking the right points. Mostly. He used the right words to describe the reason beets are powerful, but his reason for viewers to buy his powdered product was a little (okay, a lot) overstated. He sells energy and endurance. yea yada yah, yess, instant energy (with 20 minutes of drinking his tasty drink) and you are an energy machine.
Well, here is the truth and what he never really explained: Beets are the best source of nitrates that turn to Nitric Oxide (chemically identified as NO) when digested. NO is a vasodilator, Vessels relax, blood flows more easily, BP drops. Simple.
In fact, NO was misunderstood for years before, but three researchers uncovered its power and won the Nobel Prize in 1999 for showing how really important NO is in our body/ One is quoted as saying it is the third most important gas after oxygen (O) and carbon dioxide (CO2) And yet even today, its hard to find a doctor who knows what I like beets? And yet my BP tests (and daily records) get high praise.
So my suggestion here is that you might try just buying a few cans of pickled beets and getting into a few weeks of doing your own test. Do not think of beets as tasting like dirt! Pickled beets are delicious and cheap. Should I mention that SuperBeets® powder (to make a sweet-tasting Black Cherry (!) drink runs about $40 a can. My canned beets cost $1.20, three days per can.
