If you sometimes sit on this bench while waiting for a ride, be VERY GENTLE as you sit! I am taller than the bench seems made for, and I dare say I am heavier than most who will initiate a landing. My sitting caused the bench to slide back on the walk and the back legs were very close to dropping over the edge. That would have left me tipped over, wondering how to get up.
The bench is lightweight and seriously weathered with splintering slats. I believe it should be replaced but my suggestion to the last manager several months ago clearly ended up in the bin instead of on the list of things to do. Be aware.
Note the location of the back legs! This was not arranged for effect.

While putting in time on my treadmill, I was thinking about what I would change if I only had some power! Know what I wish I could do? Well, promote a new, safer bench (maybe a little bigger and sturdier) so that even a few people might sit together and enjoy watching over a....birdbath! If you have never simply watched the activity at a birdbath, you have ben missing a really pleasant way to fill some time.
Sure, I hear th fountain bubbling somewhere in the midst of the vegetation, but so far I have not left the walkway to investigate. But the sound, as pleasant as it is, suggests it is not a spot will a quiet level with a shallow fill that invites a bird to splash around. And even if I were to discover that I am wrong, it is hidden from view. A small birdbath on the edge near the new bench, there would be a daily cast of characters, cleaning up, cooling off, getting ready for the day. It's fun to watch.
That is a wish I will hold on to. What do you thinK? Comments?

As long as we are sitting there, it would be great to have some flowers! Blooming annuals, even a few new perennials. A mix of colors to border the circular fountain patch. Not only would the colors be enjoyable, it wouldn't take long before the butterflies would show up. There are about 120 species of butterflies found in El Dorado County. I used to be a guy who was always hunting down native plants to get photos to help the USFS learn to recognize the rare plants in the Eldorado 〈It's ONE word in the official forest name
two words for the County! See the footnote*〉 National Forest*.A few years ago I snapped pictures of a flower with two cool colorful butterflies. I became interested in finding out how these flyers (they are not insects!) so I started to learn. Tip: You use a very good book with excellent pictures because it's all done by visual comparison. In my few years ofwork play, a found about 80 of the flyers in this county.
Of course it pretty much requires a special pair of binoculars that focus up close. But just watching from 20 feet is still fun. That is my opinion and I am sticking to it.
